Sanibel Island: Dixie Beach Boulevard

Contrary to its name, this road does not lead to beach access, but it will take you from Periwinkle to the Bay side of the island.  The bike path ends at Albatross, but you can easily continue on Dixie Beach to the Bay, and then you can follow the gravel road through an exclusive residential area until it ends near Tarpon Bay.

Only the bike path section, through Albatross, is highlighted by the purple line in the map below.  The section with bike trail is residential, while the part without a bike path is residential to the east and nature preserve to the west.

Some distances, in miles:

2.7 Total Dixie Beach, from Periwinkle to end of gravel road at Tarpon Bay
0.4 Periwinkle to Albatross
1.4 Albatross to small park on the Bay (start of gravel road)
No bike path
0.9 Gravel road from small park on the Bay to the end
No bike path

From Albatross at Dixie Beach Blvd, you could head east through residential neighborhoods with large homes, to a path that ends at the Visitors' Center on Causeway Road.  Heading east from Dixie Beach, just follow the Evacuation Route signs, which will take you along Albatross and Sandcastle Road, to Bailey Road where you'll see the short path to the Island Visitors' Center.

Length in miles:

1.5 Total Albatross / Sandcastle neighborhood drive, from Dixie Beach to Visitors' Center
To see only the Dixie Beach bike path, uncheck the Show all bike trails checkbox below the map.

Purple line represents paved bike path; maroon line is gravel or packed dirt
